Renting a Car in Dubai for the First Time: A Simple Guide

From choosing your rental period to returning the keys, follow these practical steps to make your first car rental with Regents straightforward.

Your first car rental should begin with a clear understanding of what you need and what you are booking.

A little preparation helps you choose the right vehicle, organise the handover and avoid unnecessary questions during your trip. Whether you are visiting Dubai or arranging temporary transport as a resident, the process starts with your dates and driving plans.

1. Choose the right rental period

Think about how long you realistically need the car.

Daily and weekly rentals suit shorter requirements, while a monthly rental may be useful for an extended stay or temporary transport. If you expect to need a vehicle for a longer period, ask about leasing before repeatedly renewing a shorter booking.

Choose a commitment you are comfortable with. A lower monthly rate is only beneficial if the duration suits your plans.

2. Pick a car around passengers and luggage

Start with practical requirements rather than appearance alone.

Tell our team how many people will usually travel with you and how much luggage you expect to carry. Mention any specific requirements, such as phone connectivity or child-seat arrangements, so these can be checked before confirmation.

For a solo commute, your priorities may be different from those of a family arriving with several suitcases.

3. Confirm your documents before booking

Share your documents with Regents before the handover so our team can confirm your eligibility and anything else required.

Requirements differ for residents and visitors. If you are travelling from overseas, ask us to check your driving licence and whether an International Driving Permit is needed before making your arrangements.

Let us know if another person will drive. Any additional driver must meet the requirements and be registered on the agreement before taking the wheel.

4. Review the complete quotation

Check the rental dates, vehicle, mileage allowance, insurance and delivery or collection arrangements.

Confirm applicable VAT, your chosen deposit or no-deposit option and any optional services. Ask about anything you do not understand before agreeing to the booking.

Basic insurance is included with Regents rentals, and optional CDW is available. Our team can explain the cover, applicable excess and exclusions so you can choose with a clear understanding.

5. Take time at the handover

Inspect the car with the representative and make sure its condition is recorded accurately.

Check the exterior and interior, note the fuel level and mileage, and take clear photos for your records. If you notice an existing mark, ask for it to be included in the handover record.

Before setting off, adjust your mirrors and seat, familiarise yourself with the controls and save the Regents contact number.

6. Plan for everyday driving expenses

Your rental package is one part of your transport budget. Allow for fuel, parking and tolls during your journeys.

Monitor your mileage if you expect to drive frequently. If your plans change, contact our team early to discuss the options available under your booking.

For a rental extension, Regents asks for at least two days’ notice so availability, the rate and payment arrangements can be confirmed.

7. Arrange a smooth return

Confirm your return or collection arrangements before the rental ends.

Return the car in the same condition as received, with the same fuel level. Remove your belongings, check the storage compartments and allow time for the return inspection.

If you need to return earlier than planned, contact us first so we can explain the applicable booking terms.
